The Inaugural Bluewire Pool Competition

Fun Manager's Report - Feb 2008
By LESLEY HAYS

MARCH 5th, 2008

Last Thursday, the Bluewire team took over the Pavilion to test their skills with the cue in the inaugural Bluewire Pool Competition.

Adam Franklin was declared the winner at the end of the finals, with runner-up Francisco Calmon “looking forward to a rematch”.

Highlights of the evening included Mark Wyman’s miraculous win against Toby Jenkins in the first game. “It was lucky I left early,” Mark commented, “they were all in trouble with my ‘spinner’!”

This hasn’t deterred Adam, however, saying “It was good to have a winning streak on the felt, but it would’ve been even better to wipe Wyman off the table given the chance! Maybe next month…”

Sarah Hyne also had a massive comeback (some would call it a streak of flukes) against me in her third game, sinking the eight with four balls still on the table.

Luckily, in my turn against Francisco, the Brazilian managed to pot both the white and black balls in a single shot only five minutes into the game.

Some people were disappointed with their performance, however. Jake suggested that he might have done better if he’d “drunk a little more”; the correlation between alcohol consumption and pool performance being well known.

Sarah was just relieved she “wasn’t pantsed by Cisco”. “What a player!” she said.

Overall the feedback from team members suggested a fun evening was had by all and that it was a great start to our new ‘Fun Management’ system in 2008.

With the beginning of March, I hand the Fun Manager baton over to our newest team member, Jake Pospischil. We can only wait to see what he’ll come up with this month!
