Why do 65% of businesses not have a website?

Tweet

I was amazed to discover that 6.5 out of 10 Australian business DO NOT have a website.

That’s right – no website at all.  Even though there’s a heap of web designers that will knock something basic up for you for well under $1,000.

Why do you think this is the case?

Surely these business owners are spending well over $1,000 on flyers, yellow pages or classified ads.   I would suggest to anyone without a website — please take the leap of faith and experiment!

Take $1,000 from your offline spend and invest it online. …

Pete Blasina is well known on Australian TV as the Gadget Guy. I was thrilled to meet Pete when we were on the same panel at the “Man vs Machine” debate in Sydney’s lower town hall recently.

After the debate, I interviewed Pete ‘The Gadget Guy’ about his favourite new business toy – Apple’s iPad.

Discover how what started out as a entertainment device has quickly become a really valuable business tool at Peter’s company.

And the winner is………

The winner of this year’s Bluewire Media Award for Web Design is Tyler Alberti for his photography portfolio website.

Here’s what Tyler had to say about winning the award:

“As a freelance photographer and graphic designer, I have always been an advocate for self promotion and marketing. My first point of contact for new or prospective clients has always been through my online presence. Having the opportunity to enter my professional portfolio into a competition such as the Bluewire Media Award really pushed me during my final year of study to knuckle down on the design and build a really simple and functional website that displays both my graphic and web design/development skills whilst also displaying my photographic portfolio in full colour.…

Jack Daly tells a wonderful tale of how powerful Facebook has been for him.

Prior to a trip to Toronto and then to New York, Jack updated his facebook status.  Big deal, you say?

Yet as you can see from Jack Daly they incredibly powerful communication tool! Thanks again to Business Connect for bringing Jack out to Brisbane.

The collision of social media and PR: why they work so well together

Tweet

For quite some time, I’ve felt that PR is one of the most closely aligned industries with the web.

Why? Because the web has a huge demand for content and great PR is about developing interesting, relevant and timely content. I still believe this is the case, that’s why I was really pleased when Catriona Pollard, Director of CP Communications in Sydney and blog author of Public Relations Sydney, happily accepted my challenge of a guest post!

Social Media continues to be a hot topic so… enter Catriona…

The collision of social media and PR: why they work so well together

By Catriona Pollard, Director CP Communications

While businesses have been using public relations for years to raise their profile and communicate with their target audiences, social media is still finding its place.…

Why You Should Find Something Of VALUE To Give Away For FREE Online

If you’re from a web agency in Brisbane, you’re probably aware of how competitive the number one Google ranking for “Web Design Brisbane” is. The spot has long been dominated by John Hacking, with other, much larger companies stuggling to stay in the top 5 for longer than a few months.

Recently, Bluewire Media has claimed the #1 spot from John Hacking, who has dropped from #1 to page 2 (any ideas why?). If you looked at the home page of the Bluewire Media website however, you might be confused as to how we’ve made it to the number one spot.…

Capital Finance got in touch with Bluewire Media to give their tired, static website a refresh. Initially we were engaged to only do a CSS re-skin of the existing site but it then turned into a full blown rebuild, including a CMS, after we managed to highlight the benefits of having the website in a form that the Capital Finance team could keep up-to-date themselves.

Capital Finance was founded in 1995. Since then they’ve become one of Australia’s leading finance companies. They’re in the business of helping companies and individuals achieve their commercial goals and personal dreams. …

Real-Time Marketing & PR… in Brisbane

David Meerman Scott fans in Brisbane finally got see him in action – via satellite from the USA. Here are the two biggest discoveries I made at today’s event.

Real-time engagement is what matters

Tomorrow, next week, next month or next year isn’t good enough in the Internet Age.   You need to be acting now. In real-time.

And just like the Wall St trading floors in the 80s, there is money to made by responding in real-time and by the same token – if you snooze, you lose!

David provided great clarity for me when he explained this concept (which I’d been struggling to clarify in my own head.)…

Honey from The Bees Awards – interviews & highlights

Last week I had the pleasure of helping out at The Bees Awards – the first international award ceremony celebrating excellence in social media marketing.

I was super impressed by the venue, the organization, the entertainment, and most of all – the calibre of the entries and winners. The event really reinforced the energy and vibrancy of the agencies who have embraced social media.

Having the opportunity to ask the winners about their campaigns, what social media means to our industry, and where we’re headed was a rare treat – who better to ask than the innovators?…
