Scott Ginsberg’s #1 Networking Tip

Tweet

‘Networking’ is one of those horrible words, like ‘selling’ and ‘self-help’ that have icky connotations.

Unfortunately, ‘networking’ conjures up images of the schmoozer handing out his business card and then darting his eyes over your shoulder to find his next victim.  Nobody likes that guy.

Luckily, there are friendly, approachable people like Scott Ginsberg aka “The Name Tag Guy” who give networking a good name!

Scott Ginsberg is the authority on approachability (google it) and meets people everywhere he goes because wears a name tag all the time!…

Jack Daly’s #1 Sales Tip

Tweet

“If you think you know sales, you don’t know Jack” is the slogan of US sales coach, Jack Daly.  When he came to Brisbane earlier this year to share his wealth of sales and business tips, I discovered how true that statement is!

This man has done it all — started & sold companies, lead 1000+ people sales teams, is an international speaker, been entrepreneur of the year, run 25 marathons, raced 3 ironmen and done the world’s highest bungee jump.  You can kind of tell his enthusiasm would be contagious!…

Is Your Blog Your Greatest Business Asset?

Why would John Jantsch say that his blog is his greatest business asset?

Surely his email list, trademarked marketing system or his business contacts are worth more… How can a blog be so valuable? Surely this is a gee-up.

Not so.  John Jantsch, author of two books, Referral Engine and Duct Tape Marketing is serious. And I totally agree!

[I’ve been listening to Referral Engine as an audio book from Audible.com & if you want to fast forward to this bit, go Chapter 7 and start at 17:25mins]

Why is John Jantsch’s blog so valuable to him?

20 Useful Tips on Using Social Media & Blogging for Business

Tweet

One of our core values here at Bluewire Media is “continuous improvement”, and after a recent social media workshop we held, we decided that a good way to improve it would be to include a few solid tips for the most effective use of each form of social media that we discussed.

So we’ve started going through and listing some tips, none of them are revolutionary and not all of them will apply to all situations, but they’re all useful things to keep in mind. This post covers a few of the tips we’ve come up with so far for Blogging, Facebook and Twitter.…

6 Reasons Every Small Business Should Be Blogging… Are You Missing the Boat? – Hubspot
I am amazed at the blog-reluctance of many small businesses. I hear things like “I don’t have time to blog”, “blogging doesn’t make sense in my industry”, and sometimes even the dreaded “what the heck is a blog?”The reality is if your company provides unique products or services, you should be blogging. (And if your company doesn’t, you should probably consider a career change.)

Of course, the overall return on investment on a blog will vary from business to business.…

Which Big 4 Firm is Australia’s Social Media Pioneer?

Tweet

With a seeming absence of social media policies in Australian business, it is excellent to see a Big 4 accounting firm leading the way.

Who’s doing it?

Deloitte Australia is one of the first Aussie ‘corporates’ with its own social media policy in place. This enables them to embrace social media without the “fear of stuff going wrong.”  In my personal experience, legal & PR departments are often the most vocal when it comes to fear-monging with social media, but Deloitte Australia‘s team is actually embracing it.

Deloitte’s refreshing policy outlines that they understand social media’s powerful impact, if used properly!…

Facebook facilitates mobile wheelin’ & dealin’ for business

Tweet

Using social media for business just got easier, with Facebook’s announcement this morning that they have added a new function called “Deals”.

With 200 million people now using Facebook on mobile platforms, “Deals” allows business people to log in, add specials or incentives for their customers and come up on the radar of passersby, made possible by the use of “Places”.

The customer can see what’s available close to them and “claim” the deal with the press of a button (or touch screen). When they go into the local coffee shop, bar or retail outlet, they can then show that they have claimed the deal – and can redeem that 20% off their meal, their second coffee free, whatever.…

Why Social Media isn’t BS

Tweet

Social media is Superman and Wonder Woman combined. It’s here to set us free. It’s here to change the world. Resurrection, redemption, business people and customers ring-a-ring a roseying amid a sun shower of cash.

Or not.

Yes, there’s hype surrounding social media. Let’s face it – if there’s marketers involved there often is. But the assertion that social media is BS, well….I’d like to respectfully disagree.

(Note: The points I’m discussing are from an article by Mike Volpe over at HubSpot. His points are in bold. Mine aren’t.)

Social media won’t make your products better

Social Media Marketing 101: In-House Team, Agency or Consultant? – Mashable

Sadly there’s no magic rubric for deciding whether an in-house social media workforce, a social media consultant, or an agency will best be able to meet your particular business needs. Like almost every business decision, it depends on your business’s goals, budget and particular situation.

There are, however, definite pros and cons to each approach. We’ve highlighted some of the most important factors to consider for each style of social media team. Read More…

“C’mon! Share Yourself With The World!” – The Comments Conundrum

Tweet

Something that we ask again and again when we interview top bloggers is:

“how do you get people to comment on your blog?”

We know from our analytics that people are reading the blog and despite having some people interacting with us in the comments section, it’s definitely something I’d like to see more of. For me, there are countless reasons to blog but one major reason is definitely to engage in conversation with others interested in like-minded topics.

So. Why aren’t we hearing more from our readers? And what can we do about it?…

The Bees Awards – Nomination Highlight #1

Tweet

The finalists for The Bees Awards – the first international social media awards – were announced yesterday, and it’s really exciting to see the breadth of approaches that have been recognised at such a high level.

It’s also great to see that social media is well and truly coming of age internationally – with the top players coming from all over.

OLD SPICE

The absolute highlight for me was seeing that Wieden+Kennedy’s Old Spice campaign has been nominated as a finalist in the “best campaign” category, along with the “best copywriting” category.…
