Using Facebook’s hidden, counter-intuitive feature to improve engagement on your page

I’m all about learning and sharing this week so here is another short one on how to improve your business’ “other” Social Media page, Facebook.

This isn’t news to our Social Media team but, for a simple developer who doesn’t spend much (read any) time on Facebook, I was a little surprised with how hidden and counter-intuitive the Recent Posts by Others section of a Businesses  Facebook Timeline is.

Sometimes (ideally quite often), people post nice things on a company’s Facebook Timeline and when it happens, you want this to be visible to all your fans and prospective followers.…

How to create the new Twitter profile in 4 steps

Tweet

Twitter launched a new user profile design across their Web, iPhone, iPad & Android apps last week allowing further customisation of your profile. I wasn’t aware and chances are a few of our readers (maybe you?) missed this as well so I thought why not share the quick tip so you too can make the most of the new design.

According to Mashable, only 8% of the top 100 brands have taken advantage of the new setting so here’s your chance to get ahead of the big guys.

Steps to follow:

  1. Select a photo or create an image that expresses your own or your company’s personality.

Why hosting webinars is good for your online presence

This is a guest blog post.

Webinars are the perfect platform for improving your online presence. A webinar is essentially Internet based seminars, allowing business owners to host conferences for customers, clients and partners to attend remotely. The form the webinar takes is up to the host, but they can be extremely useful forums for online meetings, tutorials, knowledge and idea sharing events; presentations, product and service demonstrations, or simply as a forum for conversations between hosts and attendees.

Crucially, webinars can form an important extension of a website or blog, adding a personal touch and an extra dimension to online businesses.…

Social Media Experts (and Gurus) Don’t Exist. Yet.

Tweet

First let’s start by saying that anyone worth their salt in social media, will insist they are not an expert, nor a guru.

Most will simply claim they are a social media professional or a social media specialist with a few war stories to tell and plenty of lessons to share.  They’ve spent many years in the trenches trying to keep up with all the trends and experimenting with what works and what doesn’t.

No-one I know proclaims to have all the answers!

Social Media Experts Don’t Exist. Yet.

Why?  Genuine mastery or expertise takes at least 10 years.…

Facebook Falling? Preparing Your Business for the New Social Media Frontier

People love to root for the underdog. Remember when MySpace still ruled the land, and Facebook was the small competitor gaining ground with college kids? You couldn’t get a Facebook account without a university or school email address, so people went out of their way to obtain these and keep them after graduation.

Limiting a good product’s availability is a classic method of creating hype. By the time you launch to the general public, the idea is to have generated buzz that will propel your business to mass public acceptance.…

My Top 8 Marketing Insights from Inbound 12

Tweet

2,800 inbound marketers gathered in Boston this week for Inbound12.  Since I was one of only 3 Aussies there, I want to share my Top 8 marketing insights.

1. Get ready to news-jack

How…?  David Meerman Scott says to track Google News for what’s happening now and if you find a topic you can somehow relate to your blog, post something in real-time.  If journalists see your content as they are looking to report the story, you may news-jack it & earn thousands of backlinks!

2. You can’t really blog, tweet or email too much

Dan Zarrella is Hubspot’s Social Media Scientist and having analysed loads of data has drawn the conclusion that you can tweet, blog & email much more than you’re doing already.  …
