The Olympic story I reluctantly shared

Updated on November 25th, 2015

I wanted to share a story that’s close to my heart.

You may know that I’m a water polo player and I went to the Athens Olympics in 2004 but it’s not something that I’ve written about much. Why? I’ve told myself over the years that it doesn’t always tie into web marketing and so I’ve avoided it. Also I’ve been afraid that it might be misconstrued as blowing my own trumpet so I’ve been reluctant to share my stories.

But when Kevin Kruse, a NYT best selling author, reached out to me in April to ask for my best time management/productivity tip as an Olympian and entrepreneur, I realised it was an incredible opportunity to share my experience.…

Welcome Marc…

With a blog, you can grow your own audience and establish yourself as an expert within your niche. Some experts grew their audiences and primarily became successful because of their blogs.

When most people think about building a blogging empire, they think of the glorious results. Maybe you read through some of the case studies about bloggers making six figure incomes or going from no audience to hundreds of thousands of monthly visitors in a few years.…

“Life is about making an impact, not an income.” Kevin Kruse (Tweet this)

As I mentioned in my Olympic story, I wanted to share the 2 pieces of advice that I’ve put into practice from Kevin Kruse’s new book:

Making people share your content is the best way to reach a broad audience.

Unlike impressions that can be bought with click-bait headlines or appealing graphics, you can’t fool somebody into sharing your content. Sharing means that the brand is in line with one’s philosophy or system of values.…

Ouch my copywriting shocker

Copywriting shocker….. Confession time.

I remember my first Bluewire News vividly — for all the wrong reasons.

It’s Saturday afternoon in Brisbane and I’m nervous as anything. I write the email, design and get it designed and coded. It looks good too (at least by 2005 standards!)

I double check it, triple check it and quadruple check it…. because it’s going out to everyone I know. I’m announcing I am going into business for the first time and it’s being sent to the 700 family, friends and business contacts whom I cajoled into being on my email list.…
