3 Things I learned at Think on Your Feet

As you know here at Bluewire Media each team member is devoted to communication that is timely, appropriate and understandable. To help ensure that my communication is understandable I recently participated in a course called Think on Your Feet®.

Bonus: Download the 33 free templates from the book Web Marketing That Works.

Think on Your Feet is a two day workshop offered by New Horizons Learning Center. It is designed to train professionals to organize their ideas quickly so that their message is understood, direct and persuasive.

In this blog post I will touch on how Think on Your Feet gave me the tools to be understood, direct and persuasive.

Being understood is all about structure

When your audience is given loads of information that touches on multiple subjects, there is room for them to get lost under the pile of new data. By adding structure to your message, both you and your audience are able to follow the subject matter and retain the core of your message. Think on Your Feet gives you the skill to package your persuasion and structure your ideas simply and clearly.

Check out this example of using structure to create clarity:
[sc name=”structure-eg”]

  1. Click here and read the flowing number. 100000000
  2. Now click here and see the same number but with structure. 100,000,000

Notice how the 2nd number can be read at a glance and is easier to understand because it has structure.

Being direct is about using the right plan for the right message

Think on Your Feet covers six different types of message plans. Simply point these plans are tools that place your message into the right context and ensures the precision of your message is communicated. It’s a little bit like troops going into a battle. If their plan of attack suits the situation then the success of the final outcome is improved. For example, if their battle is on the side of a hill, their likelihood of capturing the enemy is higher if they attacked from the top compared to the bottom.

Being persuasive is about delivery

Regularly the goal of our message would be to persuade our audience about a specific idea. Think on Your Feet teaches you methods to deliver your ideas in ways that will shift the perception of your audience. The methods are powerful mechanisms that help lead your listeners thoughts to your ideas.

So if your messages aren’t being understood, direct or persuasive then I beleive Think on Your Feet will certainly give you the ammunition to achieve this.

Think on Your Feet is offered by New Horizons in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne & Perth. You can contact New Horizons on 1300 794 006 to find out more. Or click here to download the Think on Your Feet Outline.
