Subj: are you making this social media mistake?
We all make mistakes.
Long time readers know that on our very first Bluewire News, we sent “Dear Adam” to all 700 people on our email list. That was 10 years ago now and we’ve learnt plenty of lessons along the way.
So the reason we are writing is to help prevent you making silly mistakes with social media. And to give you a framework to make social media work for your business.
The biggest mistake is doing everything yourself.
You can’t do it all. No-one can. We certainly don’t, although for a while we tried, unsuccessfully. And every day it felt like we were letting ourselves down because there was work to be done, but we couldn’t keep up.
The big secret as a marketer or business owner is that you need to focus on 2 main things.
1. Building relationships (connections)
2. Publishing your expertise (content)
For everything else there is software and help!
Here’s the Social Media Matrix Template (opt-in required) that will show you how.
It will show you what you need to master, delegate, automate and eliminate (ignore).
Once you’ve downloaded the template, watch the free training video on exactly what to do.
Watch How to Master Social Media (opt-in required)
The more I speak with readers like you the more I hear that time and ROI are the big issues with social media. We’re all in the same boat. If we’re in business, it’s important that we focus on the metrics that matter. Metrics like audience, subscribers, customers, sales and ROI. Everything you do with social media needs to support your business goals.
This video + template will teach you how (opt-in required).
What if I showed you a proven social media system?
When you watch this 20 minute video, you’ll learn an easy to follow system where you can spend less than 1 hour per day doing only the HIGH VALUE work that generates an ROI. You’ll even learn how everything else can be taken care of by software and a small team.
Can we let you in on another secret?
You can ignore most social media you hear about. Let people like Toby and me be the guinea pigs and test each platform out. We’ll then report back to you what is worth your time and effort.
Here’s the Social Media Matrix Template in a nutshell. If you’re a business owner or time-poor marketer, follow this framework:
Master: Content (your expertise) and connections (your relationships).
Delegate: Adding content to social media queues.
Automate: Scheduling posts using Edgar, Buffer and CoSchedule. These tools alone will be life changing if you currently post everything manually!
Eliminate (ignore): Stop chasing the latest shiny object, like Periscope, Blab or Meerkat. Focus on where the big wins are — content and relationships. Don’t use these shiny toys as a distraction or a form of procrastination.
e.g. If you say, “I need to work out Periscope before I commit to social media”. No you don’t.
AND avoid vanity metrics. It doesn’t matter how many followers you have, it matters how many you can teach, build trust with and nurture to become subscribers and customers.
Bonus tip: Master conversions!
Use your social media interactions and scheduled posts to send people to your landing pages so you can grow your email list. This is very important — you want to ascend your social media contacts to become email subscribers so you can continue to deliver value over time. Eventually some of these contacts will become customers.
In this deliberately simple video, I share how to spend less than one hour per day on social media, and get results way better than you are getting now. I want to destroy the myth that you need oodles of time to master social media. You need no more than 1 hour per day, and a proven social media ‘system’.
I also feel compelled to give you permission to IGNORE much of what you see on social media, especially the shiny new platforms. Just stick to what works! You just need to know what the big wins are, and then knock them out of the park.
Ok, over to you. See you in the comments.
Cheers,
Adam & Toby

PS. Check out the template and video (opt-in required), and let us know how you get on in the comments.
PPS. Why is opt-in required when it’s Bluewire’s own material? It’s simply so that we can communicate only with people who demonstrate an interest and a commitment to learning from the free content. If it’s not for you right now, that’s totally cool too.
