There are three ways you can use your cover photo: Direction, Promotion and Identification.
Direction – this means to direct someone to perform an action for example “Download this song on iTunes’ or “sign up now”. Although this is against terms and conditions of Facebook some companies are still using this technique. To review what is allowed in terms and conditions of the cover photo please see the following blog post:
Promotion– this means product or event advertisement. Remember this is sell-able space look a billboard.…
Recently business have been up in arms over the dramatic drop in reach their Facebook pages have been seeing but on Tuesday 20th November, SMB Marketing Consultant from Facebook Nick Bowditch put all of the rumours to rest at the Facebook Small Business Bootcamp. Basically Facebook was built for people and not for businesses. The fact the businesses can use it is a bonus but at the end of the day statistics show that businesses on Facebook will never spend a red cent with Facebook or any of its products and when you have 4,000 employees in the company… well you do the math.…
2,800 inbound marketers gathered in Boston this week for Inbound12. Since I was one of only 3 Aussies there, I want to share my Top 8 marketing insights from the Inbound conference which we flew around the world to attend.
1. Get ready to news-jack
How…? David Meerman Scott says to track Google News for what’s happening now and if you find a topic you can somehow relate to your blog, post something in real-time. If journalists see your content as they are looking to report the story, you may news-jack it & earn thousands of backlinks!…
Are you blogging regularly but are just not feeling the love? This could be why:
Your Blog is Boring – if your blog content does not aim to engage your audience, make them think ,ask them a question or evoke an emotion then you might as well just stop blogging. This is your chance to add remarkable content that will have your readers sharing and commenting on everything they read of yours. Try using video and photos and talk about content that is relevant to your audience.
It is Ugly – there is nothing more annoying than a blog then a cluttered, non-formated and dull page.
“Voice of the Voiceless” – Rage Against The Machine – Battle of Los Angeles, Oct 1999
When I was asked to give a presentation entitled “You’ll never silence the blog – the impact of media regulations on blogging sites” (slides) at the Inaugural Media Regulations Forum in Sydney, I immediately thought of the Rage Against The Machine lyrics.
The agenda was put together on the back of the proposed media regulation changes detailed in the Finkelstein Report [PDF] which meant that blogs would fall under the jurisdiction of a government oversight body if they exceeded 15,000 “hits” per year.…
Real Estate Agents are ideally placed to use social media to establish their brand and marketplace. Through a clear understanding of their market position, social media properties like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and LinkedIn are simply platforms for building relationships that are intimate and yet ‘efficient’ in that you can connect with so many people at once.
Kelly+Partners have teamed up with Australia’s leading social media experts Bluewire Media to bring together a day that will normally costs $8,000 per participant company for just $350 per person – the day is practical, hands on – devising and documenting your social media strategy, establishing and/or refining your online properties for maximum impact and tips and tricks specifically useful in the real estate industry.…
Since becoming a huge fan, I was excited to have the opportunity to meet Ron in a workshop in Australia and do a quick interview (2:22) with him on how the web is changing the world of knowledge sharing and working.…
If you’re not in the business of making websites, it might surprise you to learn how many people decide they need a website, seemingly for the sake of having a website. As a freelancer, I get lots of enquiries for small-budget websites, most of which can’t clearly articulate WHY they need a website, other than to check it off the list. Even at Bluewire Media, a high-end web strategy company, the “Website Goals” section of our getting started questionnaire is all too often left blank.
But this just won’t do. Even for small projects, it’s important that we begin with some goals.…
It’s no secret that the web is disrupting all sorts of industries. Recruitment is no exception so I wanted to follow up on the previous blog post (89 web tools for everyday business) with a post really focussed on recruiting and retaining the best team.
There’s none better to talk about recruiting on the web than Mike Overell, CEO and Founder of RecruitLoop. We met surfing and when he told me about what he was doing with his start up, I was keen to hear more.…
While web marketing is often the first discussion we have with clients when it comes to web strategy, marketing is the thin edge of the wedge when it comes to creating value for businesses on the web. What about recruitment, customer service, communications, business intelligence, accounting, financial modelling, bookkeeping, note-taking? There are so many tools now available to make life easier and create much more value for businesses in all of these areas.
At Bluewire Media, we’ve moved towards web based products and the cloud. Why?
For 3 reasons:
To build a “work from anywhere” philosophy (Google Apps and Skype means we’ll never again be stranded as we were with the Brisbane Floods last year, not to mention working from Brisbane, Sydney, Bali and San Francisco or indeed anywhere in the world)
To access information and expertise that is as current as possible (accounting with Saasu has live bank feeds for up to the minute cash flows)
To benefit from fantastic products that often require little or no training and are much cheaper than their traditional software counterparts (like 37signals’ CRM called Highrise and Basecamp, their project management system).
Depending on where you’re getting your stats from, internet enabled mobile devices will outnumber desktop devices as early as 2013.
Google, of course, knows this (because Google knows everything), and they’ve launched a simple tool to help you evaluate your current website’s mobile friendliness, and what you should do to make it more accessible to mobile users. The tool is called GoMo, and it shows you what your website will look like on a smartphone, then gives recommendations as to how you can make it more mobile friendly.…
