TRANSCRIPT
Today’s question is, how do you deal with rejection on LinkedIn?
It’s a very common question from my coaching clients. I understand why you might be feeling this way, because when we reach out to people, when we put content out into the world, there’s a very real chance that you’re going to get:
- a “no,”
- you’re going to get silence,
- you’re going to get ghosted.
Feeling a sense of rejection on LinkedIn – and ho to reframe it
It’s very natural to feel a sense of rejection when this happens. But the key thing to remember here, that it’s a mindset shift.
1. ‘No’ isn’t the end of the world.
A “no” means that somebody has taken the time to consider your offer, and has the courtesy to get back to you. It’s just that the time isn’t right, right now. So make a note of that, follow them up later, and keep them in the loop with what you’re doing by publishing content on LinkedIn, by circling back around in a few month’s time. It’s totally okay.
2. ‘Silence’ means not ready yet
Secondly, if you get silence, if you write to somebody and they don’t write back, look, that’s perfectly OK too because people aren’t always ready, right now, for the services or the solutions that you offer. So, again, just keep publishing content, doing your thing, knowing that when the time is right for them, they will already know, like, and trust you so you will be the person they reach out to.
3. ‘Ghosting’ means not ready yet
Thirdly, if you experience getting ghosted, as in, you start a conversation with somebody, you hear back from them, and all of a sudden they go quiet, that’s okay! Sometimes life gets in the way, they get busy, but they have indicated their interest, so make it easy for them.
Go back to them and say, “Hey, I didn’t hear from you. Are you still interested?” And when you do this, it brings the conversation back to the surface, and you can explore that relationship with them. If they still continue to ghost, that’s okay. This is all part of the process of lead gen, and prospecting, and marketing.
Keep prospects warm
You’re looking for the people who are ready for your services right now. At the same time, those that aren’t ready right now, keeping them warm and keeping them in the loop.
Reframe it as not rejection but you’re guiding people on a journey, at various points in time they will be ready and you will be there, and everything else is just part of the signalling, part of the journey.
That’s how to handle rejection on LinkedIn
With that mindset shift, lead gen, prospecting, and marketing on LinkedIn should be a fun activity. And it should hopefully help address your fear of rejection. And it should hopefully help address your fear of rejection.
