Subj: my room + goals + cheat sheet
Ha ha I’m one of those weirdos that has his goals printed out and stuck on the bedroom wall. (Does anyone else??)
Why?
So I see them every day! It reminds me what I need to be doing and it helps me focus. A successful Aussie software founder once told me that he writes down what he wants his company to look like in 2 years time and he sticks it on his wall.
Without fail, he says 80% of it comes true. And he’s been doing this for a decade.
Of course he takes massive action but ever since he told me that secret, I’ve simply borrowed his technique!
Part of these goals that I have on my wall is a “Conversation List”.
It is a list of 100 people that I really want to connect with and get to know. I even have some blank spaces and a pen for adding new names.
I gradually reach out to the these people, try to be valuable to them somehow, invite them for a virtual cup of coffee via Skype and eventually invite them onto our podcast.
This is part of the process that I take to pro-actively building a strong network. Toby and I just finished our quarterly planning session today and it was very cool to notice that dozens of people from my Conversation List had been guests on our podcast.
This technique really does work well. And it’s pretty easy to implement.
The guy I learnt this technique from is John Corcoran.
You may remember John from episode 69 of our podcast.
John is a former White House speechwriter and he has become a valued mentor to me. I like his work so much I tracked him down in San Francisco earlier in the year to meet in person.
The good news is that John is lifting the lid on his secret network-building techniques.
He has released a new cheatsheet called “The Relationship Value Funnel” and an accompanying video that will show you what he does it.
You can access it here for free >> (opt-in required).
Another great technique that John teaches is based on his days as a White House speechwriter and it is known at the Bill Clinton Method.
In the video, you will also learn:
-
what the “Bill Clinton Method” is and how you can use lessons John learned observing Bill Clinton at the White House to connect with the influencers and VIPs
-
the “secret” to understanding what is really going on inside the heads of the VIPs and influencers
-
how you can connect with VIPs who are distracted by their own big missions, big businesses and other priorities in their personal life
-
what you should SAY and DO when you meet a VIP in person
-
how to make influencers want to run out and introduce you to all their influential friends and partners.
- what you can learn from the time John gave Bill Clinton old Western DVDs in the Oval Office (you won’t want to miss this story).
Check out John’s training mini-course >> It is very effective, and free.
Finally one random fact for the day: Rob Lowe’s character on The West Wing is based partly on John. Cool hey!
OK, so does anyone else write down goals and have them pinned up all around the place? Hit reply — I’d love to hear from you — hopefully I am not alone ;-)
Cheers,
Adam
