Scott Ginsberg’s #1 Networking Tip
‘Networking’ is one of those horrible words, like ‘selling’ and ‘self-help’ that have icky connotations.
Unfortunately, ‘networking’ conjures up images of the schmoozer handing out his business card and then darting his eyes over your shoulder to find his next victim. Nobody likes that guy.
Luckily, there are friendly, approachable people like Scott Ginsberg aka “The Name Tag Guy” who give networking a good name!
Scott Ginsberg is the authority on approachability (google it) and meets people everywhere he goes because wears a name tag all the time!
Scott was back in Australia for the National Networking Week hosted by AIM and I was lucky enough to be a guest at their boardroom lunch. Afterwards, Scott generously shared his “#1 Question to Ask When Networking?”
“The Name Tag Guy” Scott Ginsberg’s #1 question to ask when networking
Hello. My name is Scott. I’m the ‘name tag guy’ here live from the Australian Institute of Management in Brisbane, Australia, in Queensland. And I want to tell you about the number one networking question you need to ask. It’s not, ‘What do you do?’ It’s, ‘What keeps you busy when you’re not working?’ That’s the question that matters because people are defined by their passion, not what they do. You need to find out who people are, not where they work. So, ask them, ‘What keeps you busy when you’re not working?’ That’s how you become a networking super hero.
