Show notes

In this show Adam shares his bitter sweet blogging experience. We started out with barely any traction, even after 287 blog posts over 2 years.  The mantra “create great content and they will come” is only half the story.

Your blog articles need eyeballs! And the best way to do this is via blog syndication and guest blogging.

Updated on March 15th, 2013

(This is a guest blog post from Rachel Sanders from http://www.webdesignschoolsguide.com/)

The best blogs on the web are ones that relay interesting information while remaining visually coherent, and it’s often difficult to balance these two important factors. While it is true that there is no one secret to creating an effective, interesting blog, it’s useful to know what you should definitely avoid in your designs.…

Problogger event

I was lucky enough to jag the third last ticket for ProBlogger’s Training Day [they sold out months before the event]. Darren Rowse is ‘ProBlogger’ and he is arguably Australia’s most prolific and successful blogger, so it was an excellent opportunity to hear all the tips straight from the horse’s mouth.

Here are the best 9 things I took away from the Problogger event.

1.  15 Minutes Per Day

Darren Rowse says to commit 15 minutes a day to something you want to achieve because as Darren says, “from small things, big things come.”  …

Updated on July 8th, 2013

Are you blogging regularly but are just not feeling the love? This could be why:

This is your chance to add remarkable content that will have your readers sharing and commenting on everything they read of yours. Try using video and photos and talk about content that is relevant to your audience.

You’ve heard David Meerman Scott say every company should get themselves a journo to write their copy.

He calls it “brand journalism” and describes it like this:

“Creating interesting information online that serves to educate and inform consumers. People in companies now realise web marketing success comes from creating content-rich websites, videos, podcasts, photos, charts, ebooks, white papers and other valuable content.”

THE MARKETING GENIUS OF GUEST BLOGGING

Besides the fact that Steph Bowe is seventeen years old and her first book was published when she was sixteen (I think I was selling ice-cream) she has also appeared at prestigious writers’ festivals and contributed pieces to The Age (I got to wear a pink hat.)

And she is now guest blogging for Brisbane City Council.

A couple of questions:

  1. What on earth have I been doing with my time?
  2. Whose clever idea is this guest blog thing?

GUEST POSTS FOR VARIETY

A friend sent me a link to ibrary, Brisbane City Council’s new, dedicated website for high school students.…

Updated on July 14th, 2014

You’ve got a small business perhaps. Or maybe it’s a big business. Maybe it’s somewhere in between. And you get that by blogging you’ll be updating your website with keyword-rich content and it’ll help your performance when it comes to search engine ranking. But ultimately, if you’re going to spend all this time tap-tapping, you want people to actually read it, and what’s more, you want them to link to it for extra Google points.

But how do you get people to care? How do you get them to know you and listen and come back for more?…
