While editing a client’s web copy today I became baffled by just how many words there were!

As a writer, I see my way around a fair few of the things, but today I was reminded of how few of the words on a page we actually read.

People scan to a certain extent when reading books, identifying key words and then automatically linking them together to form meaning – but on the web it’s a whole new story.

I wondered what amount of copy on a website actually gets read, so I ventured into the Googlesphere to investigate.…

Reflecting Your Company's Character With Copy

Today at Bluewire we have been discussing how important it is for a website to reflect the character and personality of the business that it represents. When it comes to design this is obvious – you don’t need to explain to companies that the way their website looks will reflect the way people see their business. Designing Emails for Action – EMSA 2008

Recently,  I gave  a presentation on Designing Emails for Action at EMSA – Email Marketing Summit of Australia.

I addressed this question: “Why is anyone going to open & read & action your email?”

The major ‘take home’ message was to have great content & to make it easy for the reader to follow your call to action!

The 20 Tips included simple things like using consistent From Lines & meaningful Subject Lines to making sure that the email ‘works’ when images are disabled.
