Record breaking Hubspot analytics

Updated on October 8th, 2013

May 2013 marks the one year anniversary of my inbound marketing journey with Hubspot.  I’d always been an inbound marketing disciple but for the last 12 months I’ve been actively implementing it.  That’s right.. social media, landing pages, lead nurturing, calls to action and blogging!

And I’m pleased to announce a…

A record month on Hubspot – 891 leads (8.1% conversion rate)!

We had 10,944 visitors to our Bluewire Media website, and 891 leads.  For the analytics geeks like me, that’s 8.1% conversion rate for the entire website.…

There’s a marketing  theme this week – from big ideas, to stuffing up, to selling social to your boss.

10 Considerations When Creating a Social Media Policy -MackCollier.com

This article really shows that there’s no need to be afraid of social media for marketing when the ground rules are clear. Following this ten step guide in your business means you’re less likely to have a “social media disaster” – though, as David Meerman Scott attests, naysayers are really just badvocates in waiting.

How to Convince a CEO to Enter 21st Century Internet Marketing – Hubspot

We see it all the time – the marketers in a company love the idea, it’s natural to them and the benefits are clear.…

The finest pickings

Here David Meerman Scott shows how Nordstrom’s employee got it right.

We always get a bit excited at Bluewire when we see big companies taking the plunge and embracing social media. But what’s even better is the personal aspect. Who wants to chat with a big ol’ company? What we want is to engage with the people within it. After all – they’re the ones that are going to know their stuff, right?

Seth Godin’s take on the price/value mismatch.

You can always count on Seth Godin for a touch of perspective amongst all the marketing noise.…

The 20 Most Retweeted Words

Updated on July 15th, 2013

Thanks to the great people at Hubspot, I was excited to discover the 20 most retweeted words on Twitter.

It was pleasing to see that the Top 20 words included ‘calls to action’ (eg. please, retweet, check out & help) and words that indicated new and remarkable information (eg. blog, post, how to, top & great).

Equally pleasing was the fact that all the words associated with the mundane and inane (eg. bored, bed, watching & tired) were the least retweeted.

This picture was taken during Brian Halligan‘s keynote presentation at the recent Sydney Growth Summit.…

Advertising is DEAD

Tweet

You heard it here.

Although I am echoing the words of HubSpot CEO Brian Halligan who spoke at the recent Growth Summit.  Halligan compares the death of the horse and cart last century with the death of advertising today.

Horse drawn cart VS automobile

The transformation from horse-drawn carts to automobiles in the 1900s is as dramatic a shift in society as the transformation from ‘traditional advertising’ to ‘inbound web marketing‘ that we are currently living through.

Both were wildly popular and effective worldwide for over half a century, and like horse drawn carts, advertising as we knew it, is destined for the same fate.…

Why Social Media isn’t BS

Tweet

Social media is Superman and Wonder Woman combined. It’s here to set us free. It’s here to change the world. Resurrection, redemption, business people and customers ring-a-ring a roseying amid a sun shower of cash.

Or not.

Yes, there’s hype surrounding social media. Let’s face it – if there’s marketers involved there often is. But the assertion that social media is BS, well….I’d like to respectfully disagree.

(Note: The points I’m discussing are from an article by Mike Volpe over at HubSpot. His points are in bold. Mine aren’t.)

Social media won’t make your products better

  • Using social media can make your products better.

Are You Guilty of Interruption Marketing?

Tweet

Interruption marketing is a strategy that is losing impact very quickly.  Think about the last time you enjoyed receiving (or even noticing) any of the following:

Cold calls, direct (junk) mail, a TV advert, newspaper ad, radio commercial or billboard….?

Not many of us enjoy these interruptions especially when they occur during dinner, during a TV show, between songs or clog up your mailbox.

Yet strangely, when people put their marketing hat on, its exactly these ‘ideas’ that are usually dreamt up.  This behavior seems absurd to me!

Are you guilty? …
