Putting the squeeze on Facebook promotions

Shanon here in the Bluewire Media office is a smart dresser.

On the weekend, he bought a pair of jeans from a popular chain store. The sales assistant handed Shanon his jeans, and then encouraged him to “Like” them on Facebook. Just a click on their page, a symbol of support for their business, and Shanon would go into the draw for a $500 gift voucher.

This is not unusual. Several friends of mine use Facebook to promote their businesses. They run competitions on their walls and host giveaways for Facebook friends who give them the thumbs up.…

Are You Solving Your Customers’ Problems?

I’m currently reading Reality Marketing Revolution! by Mike Lieberman & Eric Keiles.

Reality Marketing is based on adding an extra step to the marketing cycle – Lieberman & Keiles argue that going straight from an ad to a sale just isn’t realistic anymore. Instead, it takes more to take the cake: Mix advertising, public relations & referrals, add a free resource, and then go for the sale.

Customers want more bang for their buck than ever before, and the Reality Marketing crew say that you won’t be in for a chance until you stop talking about yourself & start focusing on the needs & wants of your customer.…

Updated on October 8th, 2013

SEO can seem pretty confusing – and it seems that many in the game like to keep it that way. But yet again Glenn Murray has landed us with a goldmine of pointers on how to write optimised copy to please both readers & the mysterious beast that is Google in his eBook SEO Copywriting.

From lists, headings, bold text & captions, to tricks to check you’re on track; here are some of my favourite tips that he shares:

Wordle is a nifty website that can help you see your web copy much the way that Google sees it.…

Reflecting Your Company's Character With Copy

Today at Bluewire we have been discussing how important it is for a website to reflect the character and personality of the business that it represents. When it comes to design this is obvious – you don’t need to explain to companies that the way their website looks will reflect the way people see their business. But when it comes to copywriting, it seems people are less convinced.

Of course, design is important. Not only the way the website looks, but also the way it works will affect customer satisfaction. But what about the words?…

Every Word Should Pull Its Own Weight

Updated on July 15th, 2013

A marketing coordinator at a flagship radio station recently made a comment which got me thinking about what we really take from the words we read. She noted that many of us spend upwards of three years learning how to win grades with fancy words, only to unlearn much of it as soon as we hit the world of employment. She referred to the need to “dumb things down” for the masses.

While I certainly agree that much of the wording used in essays becomes useless in the ‘real world’ – I don’t think that short, punchy copy equates to “dumbing down”.…

What I learnt at Geekversity's Internet Marketing event

In the beautiful surrounds of Sheraton Mirage at Main Beach, I spent the best part of a weekend at Geekversity’s Internet Marketing event.

My purpose for attending was twofold.

1. To learn more about internet marketing
2. To see how they delivered the content

In short, I wasn’t disappointed.

The “Chief Geek” and main presenter, Troy Rushton, was on the money.  He covered a full spectrum of topics and broke them down into easy 30-45 min sessions.

This ‘Sizzlers’ approach (a little bit of everything) was effective and the information was educational, useful and most of all it was entertaining.…

3 Cool Tools for Easy Facebook Marketing

Hands up if you’re on Facebook…?

According to Facebook’s latest stats, over 300 million of you are. 50% of you are logging in daily and the fastest growing demographic is 35 year olds and older!

To put that in context, if Facebook were a country it would be 4th largest in the world (and nearly the 3rd)!

So I’m guessing you probably don’t need persuading that Facebook marketing can be a useful strategy to promote your company. The challenge you may have found is wading through the 350,000 applications to find stuff that is:

1.…
