This is a common gripe with LinkedIn… but here’s what you can do.
Getting garbage in your feed?
–> It’s likely a reflection of who you have allowed into your network!
–> If you accepts people into your network ‘willy nilly’ then don’t be surprised if you get irrelevant content in your feed.
–> If you are purely responsive with accepting connections, it’s time to get on the front foot!
Solution: Feel free to cull people. Also make the decision to be strategic, proactive and deliberate with who you reach out to and connect with.
NB. 99% of people on LinkedIn are ‘lurkers’. ie. They never comment, like or post content, but are paying attention — and could be valuable connections. However chances are they are quite passive and wouldn’t go out of their way to connect with you.
That’s why it’s up to you to cultivate your own connections. Our business network is our responsibility!
Getting spammed with DMs?
–> Again feel free to cull a few people and do a spring clean of connections.
–> Also, remember LinkedIn is a business platform, so don’t be alarmed if you get business propositions! Just scroll past or ignore it if it’s not for you.
–> Another consideration is that not everybody has been trained in how to do DMs properly, so their approach may be a bit rough around the edges at times.
Solution: Either cull a few people or be more forgiving since it is a business platform.
