Yesterday I shared the story of how I embraced organic social media in a way that not only sat comfortably with me, but that started bringing in quality leads across all major platforms – Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

To recap, I started “doing social media” in a way where I could be myself and feel as though I was sharing useful tips about the marketing stuff I’d learnt — without being (too) OTT or annoying.

Anyway, I started seeing these results for myself… so I started sharing these secrets with private clients and close friends.

And the same techniques worked for them too! Here’s a few stories about how they used social media approach to attract leads, prospects and sales.

Earlier this year I decided to follow Adam Franklin’s example in using LinkedIn video to engage with a my target audience and leverage flagship content.

VIDEO #1:

• This was tough to do, had to take the “just do it” approach. Shared a tip from a workshop with a client that day.
• Results: Almost 2k views. Lots of engagement and encouragement, new connections. And, a new client for a lucrative consulting job {AF’s note: price was disclosed but not approved for publishing} – being top of mind really paid off..!

VIDEO #2 and #3.

• These two videos, went okay, but I didn’t get the call to action right so engagement was good, but nothing material from it.
• Results: Almost 2k views across two videos. Lots of engagement and encouragement, new connections.
• I attended the Social Media Doing Workshop with Adam and did a video based on reviewing my personas.
• Went for a CTA that attempted to push people to my website for flagship content – didn’t work.
• Results: Almost 1k views, new connections.

VIDEO #4:

VIDEO #5:

• Got it right with this one.
• Followed Adam’s CTA of “type Yes Please for the content…” Got to make it easy for people to engage and connect.
• Results: Over 2k views. 30+ requests for the content, 20 new connections that are right in the zone of my ideal clients.

Mark’s Reflections:

• I will continue to use video on LinkedIn, it’s a great way to get your ideas and content out there.
• Video is easy for the person to access – a lot less effort than reading a 500 word post.
• Video allows you to demonstrate you are human, your personality and your personal message.
• Taps into your second degree network, so you will make more connections that want to engage with the content you have produced.
• Great way to build a broader audience.

So this social media thing was proving to work, not just for me, but for my friends and clients too.
