I’ve heard a bit about “Gamification” as a business philosophy over the years – the idea that by applying the principles of game design techniques to non-game experiences, you can help to drive user behaviour. So I thought there might be a few people in our readership interested (and significantly better qualified) to hear that the inaugural Gamification World Championships are on in San Francisco.

Overview
The 2013 Gamification World Championships is a fun, innovative and professional competition that celebrates the highest
standards of Gamification excellence among students and professionals worldwide. Gamification is among the world’s
fastest growing professional service industries and continues to greatly impact corporate and social enterprises
worldwide.
The 2013 Gamification World Championships will comprise:
Two Online Rounds (Commencing September 1st 2013); and
Live World Championship Finals Event held in San Francisco, USA (October 13th 2013)
Participants
Highly skilled and innovative professionals and students worldwide from over 100+ countries will compete from diverse
backgrounds, including: Strategy Consultants, Innovation Experts, Human Resources, Management Consultants,
Information Management, Product Design, Start-Ups and Game Design, among others.
Online Rounds
Rounds 1 and 2 Online Rounds will test competitors’ wide-range of practical, theoretical and innovative understanding of
Gamification strategy, experience and mechanics. Global participants will individually answer multiple choice questions
and Gamification-related case studies over 120 minutes. Questions will test a wide-ranging of skills and expertise –
including Practical, Theory, Strategic/Serious Games Design Techniques, Engagement Mechanics and Augmented Reality.
Enterprise Gamification questions will focus on exploring real-life business approaches and techniques that drive
improved engagement, business performance and reshaping corporate decision-making.
Live World Finals Event – San Francisco
Top 16 World Finalists will be flown to the Live Finals Event in San Francisco to compete for the title of Gamification World
Champion. Three world-leading judging authorities for the World Finals will be: Mr Mario Herger, Ms Marigo Raftopoulos
and Mr Yu-Kai Chou. The inaugural 2013 Gamification World Champion will be awarded US$25,000 First Prize.
