Making the Web Personal Through Design

In a crowded digital world with thousands of websites, creating a web experience “that is simply usable is no more memorable than a meal that is merely edible. Just like a master chef strives to create a menu that is truly exceptional, so should we, as web professionals – endeavour to design and develop experiences and interfaces that are unforgettable”. 1

Visual design plays a powerful role in shaping and stimulating how we feel and respond. Making a web experience that is not only usable but also enjoyable, memorable, fun and filled with personality will set your brand apart from competitors and help you connect with your audience.…

This year I won’t be looking to a Hollywood blockbuster to regain perspective; I am simply looking to social media.

I was searching for social media content online for a client and then I stumbled on a story that has caused this sudden shift in my 20 year old tradition – “JetBlue Delivers Cousin’s Goodbye Letter to Newtown Child’s Funeral”.  …

What a Little Boy and a Puppy Taught me About Content Marketing

Tweet

A store owner was tacking a sign above his door that read “Puppies For Sale”. Signs like that have a way of attracting small children, and sure enough, a little boy appeared under the store owner’s sign. “How much are you going to see the puppies for?” he asked.

The store owner replied, “Anywhere from $30 to $50.’

The little boy reached in his pocket and pulled out some change. “I have $2.37“, he said. “Can I please look at them?”

The store owner smiled and whistled and out of the kennel came a lady, who ran down the aisle of his store followed by five teeny, tiny balls of fur.…

Facebook Users Can No Longer Hide.

Tweet

From now until the end of the year Facebook will be rolling out a number of changes to its privacy controls.

With the changes, users will no longer have the option to hide from Facebook searches.

Changes to your Activity Log will however mean you are able to more easily see where your personal data is travelling across Facebook.

Has anyone posted less than flattering photos of you? It will now be easier for you to request that they be taken down by the uploader ,as well as, decide which of your subscribers and friends get to see your personal info, photos and status updates in the first place.…

1. Have a dynamic Facebook Cover photo.

There are three ways you can use your cover photo: Direction, Promotion and Identification.

Direction – this means to direct someone to perform an action for example “Download this song on iTunes’ or “sign up now”. Although this is against terms and conditions of Facebook           some companies are still using this technique. To review what is allowed in terms and conditions of the cover photo please see the following blog post:

Promotion– this means product or event advertisement. Remember this is sell-able space look a billboard.…

If you’re one of the many businesses up in arms over the recent dramatic drop in your Facebook reach, then you probably aren’t.

According to Nick Bowditch, marketing consultant at SMB Marketing Australia and New Zealand, it is a bit of an unfortunate coincidence that Facebook’s paid promoted posts were released around the same time that everyone’s Facebook reach suddenly dropped.

Facebook provides access to140 billion friend connections and studies have proven that if they don’t have to, businesses using Facebook won’t spend 1 red cent on it. With approximately 4000 staff and now shareholders, the bills have to be paid somehow.…
