Alien Host Vs Hosting (the reality)

Alien Host Vs Hosting

Ten weeks after starting at Bluewire Media and I am starting to feel like I have some clue about the crazy world of web. If you asked my colleagues they would still call me a rank amateur but in my head I am moving ahead in leaps and bounds.

I have always been an avid user of the web, but understanding the nuts and bolts about how it actually functions was as foreign as an alien language. In fact, considering the possibility that there was some mothership in outer space, run by freaky little aliens who used some awesome energy source to store and transfer the information… We are now sharing across the globe in an instant, was not so far-fetched for me.…

Project Budget Tips

We all want a beautiful, unique, functional website for our business but many of us have no real idea what it might cost to get one. While not always fun, talking dollars and cents will act as a reality check on the scope of your website design project.

Whether you’re building from scratch or upgrading a current website, it’s important to have some understanding of website pricing and the various elements that can affect price. This will allow you to be ready to adapt if need be, once you send for quotes.…

SHARING IS CARING

Did your Mummy teach you to share?

Here’s hoping she did because in the new world of marketing on the web, sharing is key. When I started working at Bluewire Media the first thing I noticed was how much “stuff” they gave away — I’m talking seriously helpful information, expert knowledge and wisdom, practical advice and guidance on all things web, just given away. Free! I don’t know about you but I thought I was living in a world where nothing comes for free.

Here is the conversation that repeated regularly in my first few weeks until it sunk into my thick skull.…

Word to the Wise

Sex texts – bridging physical barriers! If you haven’t done it yet, it’s only a matter of time before you try. It’s a new world order, reintroducing written erotica to the world. Unfortunately if you’re a politician or a celebrity, it’s not looking good for you – statistically speaking you will be busted sexting very soon and your public credibility and private love life will crumble. While it’s all well and good to celebrate our brave new world and experiment with technology, it’s also worth watching our back. Go ahead and explore your inner sex god or goddess, feel free to cyber connect with your lover, but please don’t do it in public.…

Technology Lawyer reminds us ‘Your Wall Is Your Responsibility’

A recent court case has shown that a Facebook account holder can be liable for what is written on their wall, and this law is relevant for any business using social media pages as part of their web marketing strategy.

Social media logistics

Social media is a relatively new forum through which businesses are pitching to, communicating with and solving problems for their clients. Having a web strategy in place is vital for a healthy business and this will include having a twitter and facebook page, among others. We’ve all liked the page of some business or other, and when really motivated, may have felt compelled to write a comment on their wall.…

Not a good news week

It wouldn’t feel right to blog this week without mentioning the economic holocaust that appears to be threatening the world. The Dow is doomed, Greece is gutted, the States are failing and anyone close to retirement is likely starting to panic. If you didn’t already have your super sorted, you’d be forgiven for feeling downright depressed this week. You might even feel tempted to pack it all in, don a hoodie and join the riots in London. But the rioters don’t in fact stand for anything. There is no silenced, disenfranchised voice emerging from the fray.…

Social media naysayers

Tweet

There is a growing segment of society taking a moral stand against the new world of social media. They choose to boycott all forms of social networking and make life difficult by not having a facebook page or twitter identity. They expect to be actual friends and swap email addresses or, god forbid, phone numbers, in order to stay in touch. If you’re ever face to face with one such renegade they will have you feeling silly reasonably quickly. They’ll say, “when did we all turn into idiots desperate to share every boring detail of our predictable thoughts and lives?”  …
