Best Organisational Apps for your Smart Phone

Updated on October 31st, 2013

I’ll be the first to admit that for me, organisation is a struggle. It’s not because of laziness but purely a total lack of time.

I study marketing full time, work part time at a coffee shop and also intern at Bluewire. Add on assignments and some resemblance of a social life and there’s not much time left, so I need to be organised.  Luckily for me (and most of the modern world) I own a smart phone. Believe it or not, my IPhone is not just for Instagram, Facebook and listening to music- it’s also my secret organisational weapon.…

Intranet Word Cloud

Updated on November 24th, 2016

One of the great things about working at Bluewire is our ability to document things. And it’s not just those of us in admin… it’s the entire team across all disciplines and levels, HR through to development.

The ‘Bluewire Wiki’, as it’s fondly referred to, has gone through a couple of incarnations and now holds everything from how-to articles (document scanning, ordering stationery, design guidelines, testing procedures, ) to policy (Quality Manual, HR Manual). I can’t tell you how many articles we have now… there are too many to count.…

Sick of sending multiple screenshot instructions? Use LICEcap and say it with a .GIF

I tweeted about finding this little piece of software the other day. Since then I’ve used it multiple times daily and so I needed to share it with a wider audience. (No one follows me on Twitter ;)

If you do anything remotely like me and need to explain a process or point someone in the right direction, usually it’s 15 screenshots, into Photoshop with the paintbrush set to red, circling away and drawing arrows like a mad man. Not anymore.

LICEcap can capture an area of your desktop and save it directly to a .GIF…

Getting your Event’s details in Google results

Search Result Preview

The Google Algorithm is clever but sometimes you can help it out by giving it a little nudge in the right direction. With some help, it’ll be able to highlight extra information in your search listings to make it easier for users to find what they’re looking for.

Normally you don’t have a whole lot of control over what a result looks like. A search engine will find what it thinks is most relevant and you’re pretty much stuck with that. By including micro-data that the search engine can consume, you can have a bit more control over what your search listing includes.…

How to download the fonts

Downloading the fonts is nice and simple! Once you have hit the DOWNLOAD HERE link under the selected fonts you would like download, follow the prompts to download. Once the font has been downloaded some of the fonts will download as ZIP file. So you will need a program like WINRAR or Zipeg to unpack the font. You will now see a file with the extension .ttf or .rtf. Simply double click the file and then select install. The font will now be installed and ready to use in word, pages and any other program that uses fonts.…

10 tips for Project Management using Basecamp

Basecamp Project Management Tips

Bluewire Media made the switch from Netsuite to Basecamp for project management over 3 years ago and we’re loving it. I’ve written about it a few times here but the crux is that it’s a easy-to-use, quick and affordable solution.  I recently came across a Software Advice article that shares what they learned during an interview with Ryan Singer, co-designer of the original version of Basecamp. In the article, they cover how 37signals uses Basecamp to manage its projects, and how the creators envisioned that users would utilize their program.…

12 Of The Best Headline Writing Resources On The Web

Tweet

Updated on November 1st, 2013

The difference between good writers and great writers, in my opinion, is the “the art of headline.”

Why? The reason is that if 10 people are exposed to your article, 8 will read the headline, and only 2 will read actual article.  This is why great writers are masters of headline writing.  In fact, I should more correctly say they masters at stealing the best headlines!

Magazines covers, book titles, blog posts, email subject lines and tweets are all the realm of the crafty headline writer.  …
