Social media brand advocates

A guest post from Gina Lofaro – “wordmistress”

An Optus/Twitter case study

Most reading this would be aware of the awesome power of social media.  For me, Twitter is my weapon of choice in the war of messages as I find that it abundantly meets my needs in that regard. But the story I really want to tell today is about how Twitter connected me with a massive national company in a very ironic way, since I couldn’t get through to them – a telecommunications company – by phone!…

Red Hot Marketing Strategies from NSBS!

Australia’s political leaders, the nation’s top public servants, a Fortune 100 heavy weight and a TV celebrity were some of the speakers at the National Small Business Summit in Brisbane last week.

Speaking in amongst Deputy Prime Minister Wayne Swan, Liberal Party leader Tony Abbott, Channel 7 Sunrise host David “Kochie” Koch &  Dell’s US social media expert Richard Binhammer were some humble business owners as well!

I was honoured to speak on the Red Hot Sales, Marketing & Social Media Strategy panel.

Here is a (rough) transcript of what I spoke about.…

7 Email Marketing Tips I Just Gave a Client

Tweet

Yesterday I emailed a client of ours, Hypoxi Australia with some tips for increasing their email marketing open rates and readership!

Now it’s worth mentioning that the Hypoxi girls send one of the best email newsletters I have seen.  My bias isn’t towards its design specifically (which I’ll admit Bluewire actually does), but what I love is the red hot content that the Hypoxi girls write themselves!

And for the record, the girls get well-above average open rates & 3-4 times the average click through rates. So they are setting the standard, but still want to improve!…

“What’s the difference between a Facebook page and a Facebook group & which one should I use?”

Updated on July 15th, 2013

These were the questions posed by a client recently, and I thought the answers might be useful for others looking to kick-start their social media presence. Here are a few of the main differences:

Page

  • When you, as the administrator of the group, post messages on the wall your profile picture will be your official logo, rather than your personal profile picture,
  • Google indexes Facebook pages, meaning someone may find the page by using a search engine,
  • A page gives users the option to “like” its content, meaning a link to your page will show up in their ‘interests’ section,
  • Messages sent by administrators will come up as updates; and
  • Anyone can “like” a page.

Enter World Vision On The Old Spice Train

I’ve been hugely taken with and amused by the Old Spice viral campaign that’s been unfolding over the past few months, from “I’m on a horse” to the string of personalised video messages addressed to the likes of Rose McGowan (“we are both attractive movie stars who just got married in my brain“).

It’s a basic and effective appeal to the audience, and I like it!

I’m also impressed by the makeshift version World Vision unleashed today. It’s a clever crack at piggybacking off some phenomenal viral success, and I wish them many  happy views on their YouTube clip.…

To Hell and Back: Dell’s social media transformation

Updated on July 15th, 2013

Better known as @RichardatDELL to his 10, 758 Twitter followers,  Dell’s international social media strategist Richard Binnhammer flew to Australia for the National Small Business Summit in Brisbane last week.

Richard’s social media strategies have helped Dell have generated millions of dollars from their Twitter account alone. And it was inspiring to hear how a Fortune 100 company uses social media to generate sales and build their reputation.

However Dell’s reputation hasn’t always been so wonderful and I had some pressing questions I really wanted to ask Richard.  …

The Key to Creating Remarkable Things – The 99 Percent
The idea of doing our real work first and “reactive” work second (answering emails, getting resources for colleagues etc.) sounds like common-sense, doesn’t it? But is that really how you function day to day? Or do you spend the morning “getting ready” to knuckle down… then suddenly it’s three o’clock and time for a cup of soup? In this article, Mark McGuinness explains why doing it the right way round is so important and gives a few tips on how to make it work.…
